I have a license plate number and I need to find out who’s car this number is registered to?

Edria K asked:

I believe that I’m being stalked by an old boyfriend, but I want to be sure before I get the police involved. I bought a subscription to net detectives, but it’s no help. It won’t give me the information I need and the information I did get was at least a year old. I know that I can probably get a subscription to something else that will, but I don’t have any more money to spend on this. I called the police station to see if they would just give me the information, but they said I would have to file a report. I’m all out of ideas, can someone please help.

Spend lots of money and hire a private eye,

    or……………..

File a police report, then get a restraining order.

It’s actually illegal to release that information to the public. (at least in my state) The only thing you can do is call the police department and tell them exactly what you said in your post. Tell them you think and ex-bf is stalking you and you have the license plate of the vehicle. It’s really the only way. A report doesn’t mean that he will go to jail. It just means that it is documented and that if heaven for bid anything would ever happen you have proof you were worried.

    File the report!

    Let the police handle it!!

There is no legal way for you to get the information. If you are being stalked, then it is a matter for law enforcement to handle!!

Go to and put in license plate numbers and it will bring up a link that will tell you the name the plate is registered too.

That information is not available to the public. Unless you have a friend who is a police officer who you can get to do it for you.

Go to your insurance agent. They can run the plate for you. You can also go to your local DMV and they may be able to run the plate for you for a fee. With the new privacy laws you may be out of luck.
